The main type of ride the club organises is the weekend ride. The actual duration and intensity of ride varies week to week so that the majority of riding styles in the club are catered for. Each ride is organised by a Ride Leader who will post the route details in the club calendar and will guide everyone around the route. Unless explicitly stated in the posting, it is expected to ride as a group at a pace that suits those who have turned up that day, with everybody arriving back together. Everyone is expected to be self sufficient in some way and carry appropriate spares (ie puncture repair kit) to cope with typical problems, together with Helmet and appropriate food and water.
The road section categorises its rides by distance and by type of rider. The type of rider is a broad classification and consist of 'casuals' (riders who are generally riding for enjoyment, to keep fit and like doing the occasional challenging event) and 'training' (riders who enter more challenging events or race and are a little bit more serious about the training rides they do). Average ride length for casuals tends be about 75Km and slightly longer for training rides. Starting places varies (meeting places for road rides) and are indicated in the details of the ride posting. We have uploaded some of our favourite routes and this can be accessed here. We also have events where we encourage all club riders to come out at once, with maybe a split ocurring at some point so that those who might want a slightly more challenging route can do so.
The offroad section organises rides both on sunday and occasional saturday, starting predominately from either Godalming or Haselmere station. Rides from Godalming tend to be less technical than those starting from Haselmere, individual event postings provide will provide sufficient details so you can decide whether the ride is suitable for your ability. This year we have added a key postings to further help riders understand what the MTB rides are like:
