Types of riding

We aim to provide an opportunity for those who enjoy cycling to get outside and get fit in a friendly atmosphere with likeminded people. We have members who are interested in a broad range of cycling activities from casual riding to competitive racing, whether it's for the joy or the challenge of cycling, we aim to have something in our events calendar for you.

The club calendar has a variety of events that are either organised directly by the club or public events added to our calendar to give members ideas for challenges to take on.  Currently the calendar consists of the following types of events (click on the menu to the left for more details):

  • Weekend rides - these are club rides organised at different levels and durations, either Saturday or Sunday, both road and off road.
  • Weekday rides - there are a few people who have the flexibility in their lives to go road riding midweek during the day; in the summer we also try to organise events in the evenings.
  • Evening off-road - whether it's dark or light, there are some hardy souls who enjoy spending their evenings enjoying the variety of terrain we have locally and then refuelling at a local pub.
  • Midweek training - keeping fit requires regular riding so we aim to arrange a midweek session to complement weekend riding; in the winter sessions, this is a spinning session and in the spring/summer it's hill reps.
  • Special club events - once a month we like to hold events that get the club out as a whole.
  • Local off-road events - to get people involved in challenges we add public off-road events to the calendar.
  • Local sportives/audax - there is a huge number of publicly run sportives and audax events organised in this country that provide a challenge for road riders; we select our favourites and promote them in a club calendar.
  • Premiere events - these  are publicly organised events (road and off-road) which provide a bigger challenge, eg Etape Caledonia or Dusk 'Til Dawn
  • Off-road racing - there are some good local off-road series that members compete in.
  • TT racing  - there is a local series of Time Trial racing organised by a3crg.
  • LRVC racing - there is a local series of road racing for Vets organised by LRVC.

The types of rides we organise or promote are based on the interests of our members; so if what you're interested in is not listed, then let us know. There are probably other members also thinking I wish the club did rides like that. It always takes someone to lead others to try new things, maybe your idea is just the challenge others are looking for. (contact us)
