VCGH spinning takes place weekly from October to March at 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings at Godalming Leisure Centre. The classes last for an hour. Each class has space for 12 participants, and in general you pay up front for a block of 6 classes at a time.
Instructors guide you through targeted workout phases: Warm-up, steady or up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, cool-downs, etc.
You adjust resistance on your bike to make the pedalling as easy or difficult as you choose. The bikes are Stages bikes, which are very high-tech and can connect to your heart rate monitor (ANT+ technology) and your Garmin Edge device as a power meter so that you can save all the data of your workout if you'd like to.
All you need is workout clothes, a towel (to wipe your face) and a water bottle. You can wear trainers as the bikes have toe-clips, or shoes with Shimano-style SPD cleats.
Ultimately participants determine their own levels of exertion, which means that people of all levels are able to enjoy the same class. And there's a beer at the Cricketers in Farncombe afterwards, for a bit of carb-replacement!
