Hill Reps

Introduction

VCGH hill rep sessions are new for the 2013 season, they will take place weekly from the beginning of May when VCGH spinning sessions at Charterhouse have ended and continue on through to the end of August when the nights start to close in.  See the club calendar for exact dates.

Sessions will start from 7:00pm on Thursday evenings.  Initially we held the hill climb sessions on the old A3 around the Devils Punchbowl, but this has proven to be too prone to punctures.  Thursday hill climbs as of June 2013 will be on the climb from the Pride of the Valley pub in Churt up the Tilford Road on the climb that takes you to Hindhead

There is parking available at both the top and the bottom of the climb.  We will congregate at 7:00 pm at the bottom of the climb ie at the Pride of the Valley pub. If you park at the Devil's Punch Bowl cafe car park please try to get to the foot of the climb for the briefing by 7:00 pm.

We encourage you to have your lights on at all times and to end at dusk for the sake of safety.  Maybe a pint at the pub after the session.

The sessions

All you need is a willing heart, your road bike, helmet, lights front and rear and a water bottle. A pulse-meter strap is an optional aid to training.

We won't impose a formal structure to these sessions, it's up to you to make a plan before you start, ie the number of reps you are aiming to complete, how hard you're going to work etc - or not, it's up to you.

Ultimately participants will determine their own levels of exertion, something that works better for some folks than others. It can be easy to find yourself slacking from time to time on hill reps if you don't stay focused; many people do better when being pushed by others, that's one of the reasons we do this as a club.
