VCGH is very much a mixed club which has an ongoing aim to improve the gender balance of our membership by encouraging more women to join. All our activities are open to both men and women, and in every group there are a few women in the mix, from the intro and social levels right through to the mod+ and pacy groups, TT and race teams. Any trips that are organised will arrange same-sex room-shares, or at least offer the option of single occupancy rooms.

In addition to the mixed activities, there are a number of activities organised for women only which offer a way into the club for those who may not have the confidence to start off in a mixed group, or for those looking for a predominately female environment.

Ladies' Social & Intro Rides

Weekly ladies' social/intro rides are led on Sunday mornings by a rota of leaders. These start in
either Wey Hill carpark, Haslemere, or at Milford Station (south side) at 08:30. Rides are focused on consistent group riding in a welcoming and supportive environment. Rides usually have a coffee stop midway or at the end, and are totally suitable for beginners.

Ladies' Social Endurance Rides

The social endurance rides depart from Wey Hill carpark on Sunday mornings. These are focused on increasing challenge, fitness and pace over distance. For intermediate riders with a good level of fitness who are keen to improve.

Ladies' Social Mod Rides

Focused on strong riding and improving fitness and group riding skills. A variety of formats. For riders with a good level of fitness and group riding experience.

More information on all these rides is available on the Ride Levels page.

Not sure which ride level you fall into? Have a chat with VCGH Chair Lara and/or fill out our ladies' riding questionnaire (responses will only be shared with ladies' ride leaders as needed).

Ladies' Race Team

We do not currently have an active women's race team, but women interested in racing are always welcome to join the mixed race team sessions and join in the races attended by the men.

Many of the races attended by our race teams (both male and female) are Surrey League races, which means that all participants will need to have first completed two Surrey League preparation sessions. More information is available on the Surrey League Facebook page or website. You will also need to purchase Surrey League Membership if you wish to race in any of the SL races (SL will penalise the club if you don't).

Racers will also need to buy a full race license (silver or gold) through British Cycling.

For more guidance on how to start racing, read the tips in our Racing section, and contact Race Captain Tim Powell with any questions.
